Modern
Earth Building 2005
From
18 to 20 November 2005 was the international conference Modern Earth
Building 2005 in Berlin. More than 200 visitors from
27 countries joined this event. It was the highest range of foreign
participants on the conference and it symbolizes the international
interest for the exchange of knowledge about earth building. The
feedback of the visitors was very
positive. Several reporters visited the conference to make a report
about the event in their magazine. Also a movie team from the
Netherlands joined the conference and made a documention about earth
building and the conference. This shows the international interest in
this topic and the well done public relation which is important for the
dissemination of the sustainable building.
The visitors were be informed for
example about
earth plaster, their
characteristics and changes caused by additions, handling and surface
treatment. The process and the requests to get the seal of quality
“natureplus” for earth plasters was explained too. Prof. Minke
explained all these important aspects about earth plasters and opened a
interesting discussion about the quality aspects with the audiance. New
different aspects of rammed earth building in Germany were explained by
Christof Ziegert. He showed several impressing examples (one family
house) build by rammed earth technique. Andrew Kiels explanaition about
the dividing earth building walls in public buildings was a good
example for potential future market fields of earth building. Carl
Giskes presented his examples and showed us the use of earth plasters
in public buildings (e.g. the town hall and the tax office) in the
Netherlands. How you can use new media presentation methods for the
promotion of modern earth building was showed the IG-Lehm
Switzerland and the earth artist Manfred Fahnert.
